How long does the trail take to ride?
Between 1 and 2 hours on average, depending on how big your lungs and goolies are!

 Is it suitable for novices?
The Twrch trail is rated as difficult so the rider needs a good level of fitness and be in good health . However anyone who rides within their capabilities can do the trail. They can walk sections they are not sure of. If they pre arrange with myself I will ride out with them and do some skills training on the way if they want.

Is there enough riding for a whole weekend?
Yes. Although there is only one waymarked singletrack trail at the moment, with an OS map and some information from myself there’s lots of excellent riding that can be done in the area.

Will I only see trees and gravel paths?
No. The trail is all very natural natural in appearance and while it does cross a few forest roads, the actual riding is about 98% singletrack. There is a really varied mix of open sections with superb views and lots of exposure plus other sections winding through the trees. You’ll also see all sorts of wildlife wandering around if you don’t squeak your brakes too much.

When is the best time of year to ride?
The Trwch Trail can be ridden all year round and has open access 24/7. Any diversions etc. will be posted on the website under trail reports.

How can I learn to build all weather trails myself?
Talk to the Mountain Bike Ranger at the Centre and we can arrange for you to learn by helping out with our ‘trail pixie’ crews.

 Is there a café?
Yes there is a Cafe with clean toilet facilities and a bike wash. There are also full camping and caravanning facilities on site.

Do I have to pay to park?
At the moment there is no charge for parking. There is a separate riders car park on the right as you come in, so please use that and leave the spaces nearest the visitor centre for the old folks.

Is there something for the family to do while I’m off riding?
Besides the Twrch Trail, Cwm Carn also has a tarmac "Forest Drive" with 7 recreational areas. These include a numeracy and orienteering trail as well as a number of walks.

Is there any local “Nitelife” besides badgers and owls?
" Nitelife?" - Depends really. There are a few good local pubs, but you need to know which ones. But on the whole Newport or Cardiff would be the centres to head for on a big night out.
