The first round of the flat out, full on Kona Mash-Up 2010 Enduro DH series launches on June 12th on the legendary trails of Afan Forest Park.
Now going into the 3rd season the 2010 Kona Mash-Up follow the same unique multiple runs on timed stages concept but will have three rather than two events in the line-up. Perfect for any groups of rides who scored a one win each draw in 2009!
Anyway over to organiser Mike Wilkens for the full details:
The Kona Mash-Up 2010– the concept:
In case you are not yet familiar with the concept of the Kona Mash-Ups here's a little insight. The Glyncorrwyg Mash-Up combines timed and un-timed stages on the best sections of the White’s Level and the July trail. So you are only racing on the fun bits and just ride at your own leisurely speed in between - Great - isn't it! Some of the sections have sophisticated electronic timing while other sections are timed manually. The famous Black Run that starts at the top of the climb has fibre optic live timing! In summary it's your accumulated time that determins your position within the overall event as well as within the particular stage.
At the 1st event of the season we will have two categories to chose from - ENDURO or TECHNICAL.
ENDURO: You will ride a mixture of downhill, trail riding and cross-country (total riding distance of approx. 40km). You will be timed on the parts of the climbs, single-track and downhill sections at both locations. You will be timed on a total of 5 sections (not including the live timed DH run).
TECHNICAL: You will ride all sections of the course but your time will only be taken on special single track and the downhill sections. You will still ride (or push!) up the climbs, but that time will not be included in your result, so you can take your time! You will be timed on three sections including the live timed DH run (live through fibre optic cable and wireless connection).
There will be prizes for the over all winner in each category as well as for every timed section - so lots of stuff to be won.

Kona Bicycles
The Kona guys will be on hand at the event with the new Abra Cadabra Magic Link demo bikes, the awesome new full suspension system will be available for riders to test from the top event village, so bring your credit card to leave as a deposit if you want a ride.
The venue:
Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre is regarded by many as the best trail centre in the UK. Just a short drive from Port Talbot (M4, Junction 40), the trail rich Afan Forest Park (of which Glyncorrwg is at the northern tip) offers trails for all technical levels and a variety of distances. Four trails with sheer endless variations start only a stone’s throw away from each other and can be easily combined for a ‘full on’ biking weekend. The Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre is the starting point of the White’s Level and the Skyline Trail. With its showers, toilets, parking and camping, not to mention one of the best Mountain Bike Cafés the UK has to offer all in one spot, it offers the ideal location for the 1st Kona Mash-Up of 2010. Besides that you will obviously find our event partner Skyline Cycles right in the thick of it doing last minute repairs and having their huge bike and parts selection for the riders.
After the racing is over
The event is based at the Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre offering a broad range of facilities. Camping is also available near by but make sure you book that separately as it is not included in the over all ticket (for details please go to:
