Epic MTB stage race to cover 534km of Welsh and English riding with 15,225m of climbing!
Event supremo Mike Wilkens has been in touch to tell us the course of the
GORE BIKE WEAR® TransWales powered by Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport is now live on the Trans Wales website http://www.mtbtransuk.co.uk/. It includes one prologue marathon, 7 linking stages, 6 special stages and for the first time ever one day in England. Here's the full details to tempt you to go truly epic this summer.
Course designer John Lloyd has once more spent the majority of the winter scanning trails out there to create the GORE BIKE WEAR® TransWales course. For 2011 we will have in particular the beginning and the end of the week being changed with now having one day which we spend outside Wales – Shropshire to be precise.
The 534km long (15,255m of climbing) course we will once again span the whole width of the country while stopping at some of the best trail centres the country has to offer to fight out the fastest all rounder out there. To make things even more interesting we also added another special stage to the offerings – bringing the over all count up to 6. This will give riders more chances to win prizes from our huge GORE BIKE WEAR® prize fund but also to ‘put right’ what they might have ‘messed up’ on in one of the earlier stages. Besides the addition of a sixth special stage and reworking of large parts of the course we have also added the TransWales Prologue Marathon – giving the TransWales riders the chance to ‘get properly warmed up’ and other non TransWales riders the chance to experience the essence of the TransWales for a day. More details about the Prologue marathon soon.
The details of each stage including stage length, amount of climbing and descending, special stages and predicted riding time is now online on the stage pages of the TransWales website:
