World Championship DH wins for Wales!
Welsh based brother and sister add to the family silver with Gold medals from the World Championships!
Congratulations go out from everyone here at MBWales.com to Rachel and Gee Atherton for becoming womens and mens senior DH World Champions this weekend. With a stunning seeding run putting her well clear Rachel was definitely favourite for the finals, but nobody expected the 12 second slaughter she let loose on the other lasses in her class.
Despite a challenging course that saw hot favourite Sam Hill crash on the final corner, Gee beat second place rider Yorkshireman Steve Peat by 2 seconds to take the gold at the end of an impeccably smooth and controlled run. Brother Dan unfortunately didn't have the chance to follow up the families historic hattrick of wins in the Andorra World Cup thanks to a broken collar bone sustained at the last round. Get well soon Dan!
We're not sure when the worlds's fastest MTB family will be back home in Wales but it just shows what Welsh mountains can do for your riding though doesn't it. If you're looking to learn the Atherton way we'll have details of their next Coed Llandegla training days on site soon as we get them too.
