Coed Llandegla Forest

Coed Llandegla Forest

The new Mountain Biking Centre at Coed Llandegla Forest opened during late summer 2005 and has already proved to be extemely popular with mountain bikers from across North Wales.

The forest has mountain biking trails suitable for beginners and family groups, more challenging routes for experienced bikers including a new black run, and a choice of picturesque walking trails. All tracks are completely enclosed within the forest, with no main roads to cross. Within the Visitor Centre there is a café and a variety of facilities for bikers such as a jet wash, and all this just 7 miles from Wrexham and 14 miles from Chester.

Covering 650 hectares, Coed Llandegla Forest is one of the largest privately-owned recreation facilities in North Wales. It is owned and managed by UPM Tilhill.

Family Route (blue) 4 km/2.5 miles

Family Route

A specific waymarked route of approximately 4 km has been developed specifically with families in mind. The route avoids major climbs and technical sections, and concentrates on allowing families to experience off-road cycling in a fun and safe way. The route allows riders to ascend gently from the car park, through the forest and on to the reservoir, with its breathtaking views of the Clwydian Range and beyond, before meandering back to the Centre.

Beginner Route (green) 12 Km/7.5 miles

This route provides beginners with a taster of what this great sport is all about, safe in the knowledge that there aren’t any hair-raising descents or lung-bursting climbs. But that’s not to say there are no challenges – there are short drops, uneven ground, switchback turns and, most importantly, stunning scenery. From coniferous forestry to heather moorland, this route has it all, including many viewpoints, offering fantastic views of the Clwydian Range, Snowdonia and the Cheshire plains.

Intermediate Route (red) 18 km/11 miles

For experienced mountain bikers, technical singletrack is the name of the game, with great flowing sections of trail cutting through the more remote areas of the forest. This track utilises huge bermed switchbacks, whoops, tabletops and more, to test a rider’s ability and nerve.

A new black run is now open at Coed Llandegla Forest, complete with steep downhills and a wild series of jumps. It is located as an optional loop as part of the Intermediate Trail, and is under 1 km/just over half a mile in length.

Walk Route (orange)

For visitors who want to explore the forest on two legs rather than two wheels, there is a waymarked walk of about 4.5 Km. The route starts from the Centre and explores the the eastern end of the forest including the Pendinas reservoir.

Coed Llandegla Forest is located on the A525, 7 miles west of Wrexham. From Chester take the A483 south from Chester towards Wrexham then take the A525 west, signed Ruthin. From the Ruthin area take the A525 east towards Wrexham. Coed Llandegla Forest is signed from the road.
