Mountain Biking Wales uses specifically developed mountain
biking centres to guarantee you fantastic riding, whatever
your level.
The Forestry Commission Wales centres at Coed-y-Brenin,
Afan forest
park, Gwydyr
Forest and Cwm
Carn are home to fantastic purpose built,
all weather singletrack. These inspired technical
trails are the result of years of work from the
experienced and dedicated mountain bikers of the
trail building crews and volunteer groups; mapping
and clearing routes, digging foundations, pitching
stone and barrowing thousands of tons of material.
Carefully developed building techniques refined
for each forest ensure that not only will the
trail be the ride of a lifetime for true singletrack
addicts, but it'll last a lifetime too.
The other Forestry Commission Wales centre at
Nant-yr-Arian
combines new sections of handbuilt singletrack,
with longer natural routes. These use fire road
and natural high mountain trails to create challenging
often technical routes combining stunning scenery
and strenuous riding. These trails have been developed
to provide excellent all weather riding rather
than a soggy slog, but don't worry, if it's epic
riding you're after these centres truly deliver.
The two town based centres - Machynlleth
and Llanwrtyd Wells
- offer a wide variety or riding. The 3 waymarked routes of
Machynlleth use rights of way which can take you from quiet
country roads, through rushing river valleys and up onto technical
mountainside trails and singletrack depending on your enthusiasm.
Surrounding forestry also gives plenty of unwaymarked technical
freeride fun. The CTC routes at Llanwrtyd Wells are less technically
testing, but no less beautiful, combining bridleways and forest
tracks with quiet roads and green lanes. If you're after a
more 'serious' riding experience the masses of local trails
in the surrounding mountains and forests let you plan routes
as technical and severe as you want.
