‘Ty’ is Welsh for house and ‘Beic’ is Welsh for bike and is the name of my holiday cottages near Bala, North Wales. It was chosen because I am obsessed by cycling in all of its forms and I chose the area because it offers some of the finest mountain biking and road cycling in the UK. Two stone barns (Barn and Stable) have been restored to provide self catering holiday accommodation for cyclists. Perched on a hill above the tiny hamlet of Sarnau near Bala on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, Ty Beic is approximately 40 minutes drive from the mountain bike centres of Coed y Brenin, Oneplanet Adventure (Llandegla), Antur Stiniog (Blaenau Ffestiniog), Revolution Bike Park (Llangynog), One Giant Leap (Llangollen) and the ClimachX, Gwydir (Marin) and Penmachno MTB trails. Secure bike storage, bike wash, workshop facilities, laundry with washing machine and dryer and plenty of outdoor space including a fire pit and BBQ are all available. There is also a bike track in the large steep field in front of the cottages. Each cottage sleeps 2 in either superking size or twin beds, dogs are welcome in the Stable.
